Buddies in the Caribbean 2013 on Barbados-8P6
In Feb/2013 the "Buddies in the Caribbean" mini-DXpedition (a group of 8-hams specializing in 100 watt or less low power radios and the Buddipole portable antenna system) spent a week operating from the island of Barbados on beaches, mountains and from their villa. This is an annual effort to demonstrate "ultralight" DXpeditioning into magnificent "vista" locations, operate a field portable battery-only radio with back-packable, lightweight antennas and most of all "have fun!"

    what would happen if you mounted this on top of your home which happens to have a flat metal roof and used that entire flat metal roof as the counterpoise, would that work?.... the counterpoise is definitely over 3 feet off the ground and totally surrounds the antenna

    Many Buddipole users have modified how the coax connects to the VersaTee. Much more secure than using the pins provided on the coax. Also, I've used the Buddipole set up as a vertical for years with great success on HF 40M - 10M. Got my WAS and DXCC using a Buddipole in my backyard. BTW, I live in an HOA community and thanks to Buddipole I'm able to operate.

    I think the buddipole vertical seems to be really nice it looks like it works really well I'm still stuck between Alpha and chameleons but I think the buddipole separates from both companies the way your system is seems to be realistic

    Still relevant and awesome 10 years later. I picked up a Buddipole Deluxe kit from a friend and started researching the different configurations. I ordered the painters pole adapter from Buddipole and then found this video. I had already received my confirmation email that my adapter was packaged and ready to ship when I sent a quick email asking if I can still add the counterpoise and adapter to my order. Chris responded within minutes that he would add what I needed and get it sent off right away. I am glad I found this video because I am really looking forward to all of the different configurations that this system has to offer. Watching Chris use the clip across the leads to find peak noise is an awesome tip that I never would have considered. As a new SOTA activator, I just brought my Buddipole to W7A/AE-035 Baker Butte Lookout, up in Northern Arizona, and I made a barefoot contact to Florida using my KX3 and the Buddipole Deluxe setup as a horizontal dipole. That was a voice contact on LSB. Great antenna and great customer service!! What more can you ask for?? 73 de N7DSX

    Borrowed a buddi vertical. Only issue was never got 20 really right as seem to over shoot adjustments. 1.6:1 14.185 with feeling my large chicken coup house affected the settings. Moved 18 feet out better but no room to go further. Coax was 62 feet to rig. Could this have affected counterpoise?.

    The Delica monopod has a 1/4-20 stud. The Versatee is a 1/2 inch pipe thread. How do the two mate together?

    • @goathiker
      @goathiker 8 років тому

      Versatee has (3) 3/8"-24 connection points ...so a 1/4-20 to 3/8"-24 adapter (commonly available) allows the Versatee to be used vertically to attach to monopod (mast)

Oops, I should have listened to myself when I said "Self, practice setting it up first and make a few contacts before field day". I was getting 19 SWR on my attempt to go on 40m tonight. I had to give up. I'll be on 40m tomorrow night, trust me.

      Bushy556 usually we ran 25-30w to start things off and sometimes increasing to 50-70w if no response. Then once spotted on the cluster we dropped it to 5-10w thus saving on battery. Just hate it when you have to leave the pileup fun or end the day too early due to a dying battery!
